Egypt and Cameroon both have experience in the African Cup of Nations. Egypt have won seven titles, including three straight from 2006 to 2010, while Cameroon won the tournament in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002.
Egypt defeated Burkina Faso in penalty kicks (4-3) to advance to the final. Their play at this year’s AFCON is encouraging after Egypt failed to qualify for the tournament in 2012, 2013 and 2015. Now Egypt can attempt to win their eighth AFCON title which would be four more than any other team. Cameroon and Ghana have won four AFCON tournaments.
Cameroon advanced to the finals after beating Ghana 2-0 in the semifinals. Ngadeu-Ngadjui scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute while Bassogog added an insurance goal in the 93rd minute. Cameroon’s offense needs to get off to a faster start if they have a chance to beat Egypt. Egypt’s defensive unit has been the team’s strength during their AFCON games.
